Better road access is expected to boost local incomes and ease transportation of farm produce in two chiwogs of Pemathang Gewog in Samdrup Jongkhar. Residents of Raling and Uesarna-Warong chiwogs are getting closer to having a concrete road.

Soon, residents of more than 250 households will no longer have to travel on dusty and muddy roads.

So far, one kilometre of the five-kilometre farm road has been laid with a concrete base, and drainage construction is almost finished.

The road is expected to help villagers transport ginger, paddy, areca nut, and vegetables for commercial purposes.

Pempa Wangmo, a resident said, “This road will benefit us. During summer, the road used to get damaged by rain, but with a concrete base, I think travelling will be convenient.”

Yangki, another resident said, “Currently, the road is dusty, and during summer it becomes muddy. Once complete, transporting materials between the town and the villages will be easier.”

Similarly, Tshering Yangzom said, “During summer, the road used to be in worst condition. Now, with concrete base laid, it will be convenient for us.”

Likewise, Rinchen said, “Earlier, it was a rough road, and even after maintenance, rain used to wash it away. Now, with proper drainage and a concrete base, it will be helpful.”

According to Pemathang Gup, all the work is expected to complete by next month.

The completion of the concrete road is expected to bring lasting economic benefits to the two chiwogs, improving access while helping farmers transport their produce more efficiently and reliably throughout the year.
