With the opening of an animal feed production mill, cattle and poultry farmers in Tsirang will have no difficulty procuring fresh animal feed.

The animal feed production mill opened a few weeks ago.

Currently, it only produces cattle feed. It plans to produce poultry feed soon as it gets the raw material which at the moment has to be imported from India.

Poultry farming is growing in the district with many farmers opening poultry farms every year.

“In terms of cost, I think it will be at par with the feeds in the market.  But we will be able to provided fresh feeds as and when they want,” said the manager.

The mill will also provide a ready market for maize and soya beans, the main ingredients for producing animal feed.

The mill was set up with assistance from the Department of Livestock following a request from a poultry farmer’s group to the Agriculture and Forest Minister in 2010.
