The Bhutan Football Federation (BFF) officially inaugurated its new headquarters and Technical Centre at Babena in Thimphu today. The facility is set to become the country’s central hub for football development, providing training and administrative support to drive the sport forward. His Royal Highness Prince Jigyel Ugyen Wangchuck graced the inauguration.
This three-storey complex is not just an administrative centre but a fully equipped training hub for players, coaches, referees, and aspiring football professionals.
The facility includes a hostel with 24 beds for boys and six beds for girls, ensuring young footballers have a comfortable space to live and train.
It is equipped with kitchens, toilets, shower rooms, changing rooms, a dining area, and a dedicated training room, making it a one-stop destination for football.
“The headquarters of the Bhutan Football Federation and the training centre, which can accommodate more than 30 players, is essential. With the rapid development of football and the increasing number of players, the need for better facilities has become paramount. This centre will cater to youth players and serve as the operational base for the federation,” said Phuntsho Wangdi, Director of Operations at Bhutan Football Federation.
Bhutan aims to strengthen its football culture, nurture aspiring footballers, and expand its presence in international football.
FIFA invested USD 1 M to fund the headquarters, training centre, and floodlights. The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) supported the project by furnishing and enhancing the facility.
This inauguration marks a new era for Bhutanese football, providing better infrastructure, improved training opportunities, and a brighter future for young footballers.
