Bhutanese music will once again take the spotlight as preparations for the highly anticipated National Day Concert are in full swing. Following last year’s success, this year’s concert promises an even grander stage. Excitement is already sweeping in as the people eagerly await another spectacular celebration of Bhutanese music and culture.
The concert will feature over 50 singers and musicians, accompanied by around 50 dancers. To support the performers, discounted bus cards are provided to help in their commute.
People can look forward to performances of popular hits like Kanimi and Jatshen along with a nostalgic 90s Rigsar Medley.
“I am happy to be part of the National Day this year, and I will be singing Jatshen this time. I have practised hard, and the dancers are also working hard. I am very excited about the day,” said Phuntsho Wangdi, a singer.
“This year, we have more time to practice, but it depends on the most important thing, which is the ability of the Bhutanese youth. They have a lot of talent, so we have to level up to that this time. So, the dance choreography is more level up than last year. I want everyone to come and cheer up for that Bhutanese dancer this time,” said Orawee Tadtian, performance director/choreographer from Thailand.
Similarly, coordinators from MStudio, the DeSuung Skilling Programme and the Royal Office for Media have been working behind the scenes to bring it all together.
“We have started preparation works since a month or two ago. And when it comes to the preparation works, the scale is vast. Well, this year, it is going to be exciting to all the viewers and audiences out there because, during the concert, it is the song people have chosen throughout the year,” said Choeying Jatsho, coordinator of National Day Concert.
“Our DeSuung team Alpha C has been working on the preparation for the stage for three weeks. For the 117th National Day, the stage this time is going to be bigger compared to last year,” said Kinley Tshering, stage coordinator.
About 280 volunteers are preparing for the hour-and-a-half concert, promising an unforgettable experience. Both young and old are eagerly awaiting the concert.
“Last year, all the preparation was done very well. It was very fun. This year, it seems they are preparing it very differently, and we are looking forward to a great concert. I am very excited,” said Loday, a resident of Thimphu.
“Everyone gathered and had fun last year. I pray and hope that it is the same this year as well. I hope everyone gathers at Changlimithang for a fun time together,” said Sonam Tashi, another resident.
Meanwhile, the organisers are urging people not to carry weapons and lighters for safety during the concert.
Adding to the excitement, audiences can look forward to receiving LED bracelets to light up the event next week. With the much-awaited National Day Concert just around the corner, it is the perfect time to brush up on popular Bhutanese songs and get ready to dance together in celebration of unity, statehood and patriotism.
