Getting a forestry clearance and permit will now be faster and easier for the people. Coinciding with World Ranger Day, an online forestry clearance system was launched today. The online portal (https://ofs.dofps.gov.bt/) will be accessible beginning tomorrow.
The portal provides application services such as timber permits, fishing permits, import and export permits of non-wood forest produce collection, and clearance for research applications.
In the past, a person needed to physically visit the office to get the clearance approval taking around ten days. However, people can now register, make the payment online and get the e-permit instantly.
“This will be a huge advantage to our public because it will drastically cut down our turnaround time for these services. Previously people will have to spend days getting clearances. Since it’s an online system they will just have to either apply it through mobile phones or other electronic gadgets,” said Chief Forestry Officer, Kinley Tshering.
First observed in 2017, this year marks the sixth year of commemorating World Ranger Day in the country.
“The main objective of celebrating is to honour the fallen ranger who lost their lives in the line of duty. And also, it is at the same time to acknowledge the contribution of the rangers who are currently serving to protect our nature and environment,” said Deputy Chief Forestry Officer, Namgay Bidha.
In addition, eight books related to forest conservation were also launched. Currently, there are more than a thousand rangers across the country.
