Coinciding with the International Youth Day, Volunteer Management Information System (VMIS), an online system to collect data on youth and youth related programmes and activities in the country, was launched in Thimphu today. Her Majesty the Queen Mother Tseyring Pem Wangchuck launched the system.

It aims to improve youth engagement programmes in the country through enhanced coordination and communication among youth organisations.

The VMIS will help the youth-led organisations in the country work together towards empowering and engaging young people.

At present, without a proper system to document the programmes and activities, most of the organisations work in isolation. This has made it difficult for them to come up with need-based programmes and activities for the youth and led to duplication of most activities

The system aims to serve as a common platform for the youth organisation to help with the formation of youth groups and come together in providing opportunities for the youth.

The Bhutan Youth Development Fund developed the VMIS with support from UNICEF.

So far almost 3,000 youth volunteers from across the country have registered with the system.

Her Majesty the Queen Mother, who is also the president of YDF, donated science lab equipment worth more than Nu 5 M to the education ministry.

The equipment will be distributed to about fifty schools across the country.
