If everything goes as planned, the residents of Phuentshogling will be getting uninterrupted water supply in a few years. Among the three projects under the water flagship programme, the construction of Omchhu water treatment plant began yesterday. The other plants at Amochhu and Barsachhu will too kick start soon.

The Omchhu water treatment plant at Khariphu will have the capacity to supply one million litres of water per day. As per the thromde, since many constructions are coming up in the region, the water supply may get disrupted. So, the plant will provide additional water to the residents.

“This project will directly benefit people of Kabreytar- where there are water shortages and Khariphu area. Currently, Thromde didn’t supply water to Khariphu area. We will also supply to core town area through the existing tank. The water will be further supplied to Rinchending treatment plant and from there, it will be supplied to Rinchending area and Ahlay region,” said Uttar Kumar Rai, the Phuentshogling Thrompon.

While the three million litres per day capacity Barsachhu plant in Pasakha has been tendered out, the Amochhu plant, which has the capacity of eight million litres per day is in the process of tendering out.

“We already supply over six million litres per day to the residents here. The three projects will further add 13 million litres per day. Once all three projects are complete, the residents of Phuentshogling will have enough water supply,” the Thrompon added.

The Thromde expects to complete the three water projects in three years time. Once complete, the plants will have the capacity to supply water to nearly 85,000 people. Currently, Phuentshogling thromde has over 30,000 people.

The Government of India is funding the three water projects under the Phuentshogling thromde.
