Following the Health Ministry’s establishment of a health sub-post for Chhoedoong_Kakani and Sarjoong chiwogs of Martshala Gewog in Samdrup Jongkhar, people there have been enjoying improved access to basic health services for the last two years.

The health sub-post in Sarjoong chiwog provides all basic services and is equipped with a dispensary as well. A permanent health worker operates the facility. In a month, it receives around 60 to 70 patients.

According to the locals, establishing the sub-post has saved them from having to travel to the Martshala Basic Health Unit, which is almost 33 kilometres away.

“Basic health services have come to our doorstep. Earlier, during emergencies, taking sick people to the gewog BHU was challenging, especially during the rainy season. The road would remain blocked giving us a difficult time,” said Sonam Wangdi, a farmer in Martshala Gewog.

“The health sub-post at Sarjoong chiwog has benefited us immensely. We are grateful to His Majesty and the government for its establishment,” added Sangay, from the same gewog.

“Compared to earlier days, availing ourselves of basic health services has become easier. Whenever we fall sick, we can just go to the sub-post for treatment without any difficulty,” shares Yeshi Dorji, also from the same gewog.

The district health sector, with support from its parent ministry, constructed the facility worth Nu 1.2 M.

Besides the people of Martshala Gewog, the sub-post also caters to those from the two neighbouring villages under Wangphu gewog.
