The Royal Bhutan Police arrested the suspect who allegedly murdered a middle-aged woman in one of the hotels in Phuentshogling. He was arrested from Babesa on Tuesday. The incident was reported to police after the hotel found out the body with dismembered head in the toilet on Sunday afternoon.

The suspect and victim, both non-national stayed in the hotel from December 12. Until December 18, the room charges were all paid. When the hotel owner found out that the suspect did not pay the room charges for the next three days, the owner sent the waiter to check whether they wanted to check out or not. The room was found locked. They used a duplicate key and met with a bad smell. Then the waiter saw the body in the toilet. They immediately called the police.

The suspect confessed to the crime. The victim was his second wife. The main cause of the incident was misunderstanding and relationship problem between the two of them. The suspect has been working in Bhutan since 2001 as a labourer, carpenter, mason and labour contractor. He was under Paro police custody for some civil case this September. His first wife and the son then paid Nu 131,000 and took him out.

According to him, whenever he tried calling his second wife, her phone was always busy and he couldn’t contact her even through her father. He became suspicious then. The suspect then came down to Phuentshogling on December 11 and called his second wife. The suspect and his wives are from Cooch Bihar under West Bengal, India. The suspect confessed to have murdered the victim on December 19. He then left for Thimphu. Phuentshogling police found the head of the victim along the Omchhu river yesterday evening. The body of the victim will be handed over to the family today. The suspect is under Phuentshogling police custody and the case will be forwarded to Office of the Attorney General.
