Our towns need a transport planner- ThromponsAs the towns in the country grapple with traffic congestion, the thrompons of two major towns; Thimphu and Phuentshogling suggest a transport planner to be included in the National Transport Policy.

The policy is in the process of being framed.

Thimphu Thrompon, Kinlay Dorjee said without a transport planner, it is challenging to come up with relevant transport plans for the city.

He said they are carrying out activities in the city based on their experience and common sense. “We also base it on feedback that we receive from motorist and residents.”

Kinlay Dorjee said, for instance, when they convert a double-lane road into a single-lane, they are not too sure what the repercussion would be.

“The transport planner can come up with the idea which will be related to solve the traffic problems so that there wouldn’t be much traffic problems in the days ahead in our near future,” said Gelegphu Thrompon, Tikaram Kafley.

The works and human settlement ministry also supported the suggestion.
