Bangladesh wins the first edition of the SAFF under 18 women’s championship. The Bangladeshi girls defeated Nepal 1-0 in the finals played at the Changlimithang National Stadium yesterday.

With their intentions clear, the two sides tried their best to score early in the game but failed.

Giving no chances at both the ends of the ground, the two teams displayed a stronghold to their defensive lines, which led to a goalless first half of the game.

However, the winning goal for the Bangladeshi tigresses came early in the second half. Masura Parvin of Bangladesh headed in the only goal of the match from a set piece just three minutes in the second half.

In an attempt to equalize, the Nepalese girls gave all their best but failed to score any goals.

Meanwhile, the host nation, Bhutan succumbed to a defeat against the Indians and ended the tournament in fourth place.

Following their first encounter in the opening match of the championship, the two sides met, yet again. In their last meet, Bhutan suffered a 4-0 defeat from the Indians.

This time, the two sides played their last match of the tournament with a similar ambition as both the teams were vying for the third position in the championship.

After finishing the first half of the game without any goals from both the sides, Roy Devneta of India scored the only goal of the game in the second half.

” The Indian team was strong so it was a good experience for our girls. Now we have senior SAFF match for the girls in December. We are going back to Gelephu and prepare for the tournament,” Sung Jae Lee, the Head Coach of Bhutanese team, said.

With the end of the tournament, medals and trophies were awarded to the winners, runners-up and the first runners-up team.

Individual prizes were also awarded to the most valuable player and the top scorer of the championship.

The first edition of the South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) U-18 women’s championship saw six South Asian Countries taking part in it.
