The Prime Minister of Thailand, General Prayut Chan-o-cha (Retd), has arrived in the country on a two-day official visit.

Upon arrival at the Paro Airport, he was received by his Bhutanese counterpart Prime Minister Dasho Tshering Tobgay.

Home minister Dawa Gyeltshen and the Chief Operations Officer of the Royal Bhutan Army, Lt. General Batoo Tshering, were among the team of officials present at the arrival.

In the afternoon, the Thai  prime minister will receive an audience with His Majesty The King.

Later, he will meet with Prime Minister Dasho Tshering Tobgay.

In the evening, Prime Minister Dasho Tshering Tobgay will host a state banquet in honour of Thai prime minister at the Royal Banquet Hall.

This is Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha’s first official visit to Bhutan. He is visiting the country at the invitation of Prime Minister Dasho Tshering Tobgay.

Bhutan and Thailand enjoy warm and cordial relations. The two countries established formal diplomatic relations in November 1989.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs says the visit marks an important milestone in the close and friendly relations between the two kingdoms.

The visit is also a part of the tradition of regular exchange of high-level visits between the two countries.

The foreign ministry also said the visit will provide impetus to the strong ties of friendship and goodwill between the Royal Families, governments, leaders and the people of the two countries.
