Security in southern border strengthened: Home Minister

Security in southern border strengthened- Home MinisterSecurity issues, along the border, were brought up in yesterday’s discussion in the National Assembly.

The Dramedtse-Ngatshang MP, Ugyen Wangdi said the recent riot in Samste border area and kidnapping cases in Sarpang have people living in fear.

He questioned the Home and Cultural Affairs  Ministry on the measures put in place, to address security issues in the southern part of the country.

The Home Minister, Damcho Dorji said various bilateral meetings have been held between the Bhutanese and Indian authorities to ensure peace and security along the border.

Lyonpo also said from 2012 till date, 12 Bhutanese and one Indian national have been kidnapped from Sarpang and some at the border areas while travelling.

Lyonpo also said upon the command of His Majesty, security along the southern border have been strengthened by deploying special troops. He said around 1,300 police personnel and 2,700 army personnel have been deployed in the southern Dzongkhags.
