Sacred relic returns to Bhutan

The tooth relic of Lord Buddha or Sangay Woedsung was returned yesterday by a 13-member delegation from Thailand, including the two ministers attached to the Prime Minister’s Office in Thailand and the Vice Minister of Health.The relic was kept in Thailand for about a month.

The cabinet ministers led by Prime Minister, Jigmi Y Thinley, received the sacred tooth relic of Sangay Woedsung or Lord Buddha at the Tashichhodzong. The relic will be placed in the Kuenrey, its main abode.

The relic was taken to Thailand in December last year for the 84th birth anniversary of His Majesty the King of Thailand. It was also for the peace and well-being of Thai people who were affected by the flood.

Officials said that the relationship between the two countries have been further strengthened with this exchange.

Meanwhile, the tooth relic will be on display at Tashichodzong for three days from Tuesday.
