Whirlwind three days of events for residents in Phuentshogling

These past three days have been a whirlwind of activities for the residents of Phuentshogling- from celebrating His Majesty’s birthday at the public ground to musical shows and food in the streets.

For the first time, the street in the heart of the town closed to traffic to host various entertainment programmes.  Thousands of people flocked into the main town to treat themselves to food and music. Along with His Majesty’s 38th birthday celebration, the event was held to mark the golden jubilee of Bhutan-India’s bilateral ties.

Today, while the town is regaining its normalcy, the activities have left behind experiences for the residents to cherish.

“Normally it is a congested area and difficult to cross the street through Zebra crossings. During three-day event, there was no traffic and it was so peaceful. The shows were entertaining too,” said one of the residents, Kezang Tshering.

Few others too spoke on similar lines. “It is rare to see this kind of events being put up here. So this time, with several entertainment activities, we had so much fun,” said a participant in the musical show, Kelden Dechen Dorji, adding the platform was apt for youngsters to showcase their talents.

The Bhutan-India Friendship Association organised the event. As both Bhutan and India organise various events at the state level to mark the golden jubilee throughout the year, the association too has various commemoration  programmes lined up.
