People traveling to different destinations within Thimphu will now have an option to book taxi online.
Following the success of online bus booking, which was started in May last year, Druk Ride plans to launch online taxi booking system from next month (February). Passengers can book taxis online by downloading Druk Ride’s mobile app- “MyDrukRide.” The founder of the Druk Ride said, once the commuter clicks on the downloaded app, required information to book a cab will appear.
“Passenger can choose their drop off location and reset a taxi, and nearest taxi driver will be notified. Once the driver accepts the booking, he will be notified of the location to drop the passenger,” added the Founder of Druk Ride, Jigme T.Y. Rinzin.
The taxi fare payment can be done either in cash or through BoB card and Royal Monetary Authority (RMA) payment gateways. “We came up with online taxi booking to help both the passengers and taxi drivers. Sometimes taxi looks for a passenger and sometimes it’s the role reversal,” said the Founder of Druk Ride.
To provide online taxi services, taxi drivers will have to be registered with MyDrukRide. So far, only 30 taxi drivers have registered.
