Model bus stop inaugurated

bus-stopThe information and communications’ minister, DN Dhungyel inaugurated a 48-seat model bus stop in Changjiji, Thimphu, today. The bus stop is well lit, has a ramp for wheelchairs, and a surveillance camera, according to the ministry’s Project Coordinator, Sonam Dendup.

He said the bus stop is practical and cost-effective for an efficient and effective transport management system for Thimphu city.

The government, with financial support from the United Nations Development Program, built the bus stop costing Nu 900,000.

The construction was in line with the Intelligent Transport System’s recommendations. Thimphu Thromde had carried out the study.

Sonam Dendup said Changjiji was chosen as the pilot project because the residents are from low-income group.
The Project Coordinator also said there are plans to install lights at Changjiji’s Zebra crossing for pedestrian’s safety.

If proven successful, the ministry plans to construct similar bus stops throughout the capital city.
