Trongsa Dzongkhag Tshogdue to decide course of action against Langthil gup

Trongsa Dzongkhag Tshogdue to decide course of action against Langthil gupTrongsa Dzongkhag Tshogdue committee will soon decide what action to take against Lhangthil Gup, Lham Dorji after Dagana District Court sentenced him to two months imprisonment. The court had found him guilty of bribing contractors for the construction of Shatong Goenpa.

The Tshogdue’s Chairperson said the decision will be made according to the Local Government Act.

Supreme Court had recently notified that the elected leaders must vacant the office upon conviction as pronounced in the Constitution.

The Constitution says a person shall be disqualified as a candidate or a member holding an elective office under the Constitution, if the person is convicted for any criminal offence and sentenced to imprisonment.

In 2009, the gup had represented T&CL Company, belonging to his brother, when bidding for the construction was underway.

The dzongkhag administration received the verdict only yesterday delaying the course of action even though it was passed on September 9.

Speaking to BBS over the phone, Lham Dorji said he did not bribe other contractors and that he is not happy with the verdict. The gup said if he had bribed the contactors he should be the lowest bidder at that time. But he says there were other three who quoted lower than him. However, the three were disqualified for various reasons, according to the gup.
