The first coordination meeting among the working group members on National Action Programme (NAP) to combat land degradation was held today in the capital.
The meeting aimed to kick-start the actual NAP alignment process, to create awareness among working group members and to establish proper working mechanism.
The Alignment process, which is financially supported by Global Environment Facility, is expected to complete by June 2014. Once complete and approved by the government, it will serve as the overall strategic or guiding document for addressing land degradation and mainstreaming sustainable land management into plans and policies.
The working group members include representatives from 20 relevant ministries, departments, NGO’s, Civil Society Organization and media.
