The Secretary of the Ministry of Economic Affairs Dasho Sonam Tshering is in the Bangladeshi capital Dhaka leading a high level delegation for the Commerce Secretary level meeting, which began today.
The delegation comprises of officials from the Finance, Agriculture, Foreign Affairs and Economic Affairs ministries.
The two-day meeting will discuss issues related to trade and transit to facilitate and promote smooth flow of trade between Bhutan and Bangladesh.
Bangladesh is Bhutan’s important trading partner.
Bilateral trade agreement between Bhutan and Bangladesh was signed in 1980. Since then, trade between the two countries has grown steadily.
In 2011, total trade between the two countries was recorded at close to Nu. 1,400 million, the highest so far.
