A forest fire which began last evening at Memelakha in Thimphu continues to burn on. Fire-fighting efforts have been hampered by strong winds and steep terrain.
Thick smog from the fire blanketed Thimphu valley, today. Visibility was poor in the morning, and haze remained for much of the day.
It is not yet known how many acres of forests have been destroyed by the fire. The cause of the fire is being investigated as well.
Close to three hundred fire-fighters comprising of forestry officials, the army, Dessups, volunteers, RNR officials, and local residents are battling the fire which broke out at about 5:20 p.m., yesterday.
