Chortens whitewashing, a voluntary project

Volunteer works are not only for the Desuups and Scouts. Any individual can contribute in their small way by forming groups and taking initiatives. Kuenphen Let’s Help Project was initially formed in 2016 with only two members but the project has completed whitewashing over five hundred chortens within two years.

Bhutan U-19 lost to Malaysia by 260 runs

Bhutan’s under-19 cricket team suffered a massive 260-run defeat at the hands of the host nation, Malaysia in the ongoing Asian Cricket Council (ACC) under-19 Eastern Region Cup.

NEC kick-starts Zero Waste Hour

In efforts to reduce producing wastes and dedicating at least an hour to collecting them, the National Environment Commission (NEC) kick-started it’s Zero Waste Hour in the capital today. Led by the Prime Minister, more than 150 people from various governmental agencies, Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and volunteers took part in the cleaning campaign and collected over a hundred sacks of wastes.

Dochhukha_Dzomlingthang_Ritsa chiwog without water for irrigation

Farmers in parts of Punakha are worried by the acute shortage of irrigation water hampering the paddy transplantation works. As the peak season for paddy cultivation began in the dzongkhag, some paddy fields still remain dry and fallow due to lack of rainfall and insufficient irrigation water in place.

5th India-Bhutan Friendship Tennis Championship underway in Thimphu

The 5th India-Bhutan Friendship Tennis Championship began in Thimphu today. 75 participants from Bhutan, India and Nepal are taking part in the tournament. Nepal is taking part in the tournament for the first time this year.

3rd BCCB Women’s T20 club Championship begins

The 3rd Bhutan Cricket Council Board (BCCB) Women’s T20 club championship cricket tournament began in Thimphu today. 10 teams from Thimphu, Punakha, Paro and Sarpang are taking part in the tournament.
