Defamation case filed against Kuensel dismissed

The Samtse Dzongkhag Court has dismissed the defamation case filed by the Penden Cement Authority against Kuensel. According to the Court, PCAL failed to submit the details of distorted or false report as claimed in their earlier letter to the court last month.

Royal visit to Haa concludes

His Majesty the King and Her Majesty the Gyaltsuen returned to Thimphu after a Royal Visit to Haa Dzongkhag. During the six-day visit, His Majesty the King and Her Majesty the Gyaltsuen visited schools, lhakhangs and villages. Their majesties met students, teachers, government officials, armed force personnel and locals. They also visited Haa town, TagchuGonpa, and IMTRAT. His Majesty granted an audience to government officials, Gups and Thromde Thuemi.

A direction on the economy’s debt

The chairperson of the Public Accounts Committee Choida Jamtsho who is the Nganglam-Pema Gatshel member read out the report on public debt management to the joint sitting of the parliament today. The report also contained recommendations made by the Royal Audit Authority (RAA) and response from the finance ministry.

Tenancy Act 2015 to have more teeth

Although some members of the parliament opposed certain provisions of the Tenancy Bill, the parliament endorsed it with a majority vote today. Dagana MP Sonam Dorji did not agree with tenants paying a penalty of 24 percent of the house rent annually should a tenant not pay his rent in time.

Attorney General to serve for five years

Although, the National Council proposed that the new Attorney General shall hold office for a five year term, the parliament today removed the clause since it was already mentioned in another section in the OAG Bill.
