A 27-year-old woman along with her two children, 4 and 12, have died in a house fire in Trashi Yangtse. The deceased, a single parent, was living in a hut above the fuel station along with her children. The incident was reported to the police this morning at around 6:30am.

All three were found dead when police arrived at the site. It is not yet known when the fire actually started.

The Police suspect candlelight to be a cause of the fire, as the hut has no power supply.

Wangdue fire

Wangdue-FireMeanwhile, a fire in Wandue Phodrang razed six huts to the ground last morning. The fire above Bajo Higher Secondary School broke out at around 10:30am. Although no casualties were reported, some families lost some of their belongings.

The fire Brigade from Punakha along with Army and Police Personnel in Wangdue Phodrang helped contain the fire on time. Aided by Dzongkhag and Gewog officials and the students of Bajo, the fire was contained in about two hours’ time.

Locals said, if it wasn’t for the timely assistance, the fire would have damaged surrounding properties.

Dzongkhag officials delivered Semso from His Majesty and the disaster relief kits to the affected family members. They were also provided shelter by the Dzongkhag and the Dratshang, and business community members are providing them the meals.
