The National Monument Committee has now revised entry fees for Lhakhang and monuments for all foreign visitors. The revised entry fees came into effect on Friday. The committee also introduced entry fees in eight other Lhakhang and dzongs.
All foreign visitors now have to pay Nu 2,000 to visit Taktsang. Earlier they had to pay Nu 1,000. And to visit, Tashichho Dzong, Memorial Chorten, Changangkha Lhakhang in Thimphu, Kyichu Lhakhang and Ringpung Dzong in Paro and Punakha Dzong, and Chimmi Lhakhang in Punakha, the visitors will be charged Nu 1,000.
As per the National Monument Committee, children below 18 years will be granted a 50 per cent concession while children five years and below do not have to pay the entry fees. The Tourism Council of Bhutan will be collecting the fee for now. But after September 23 this year, the fees will be collected at the designated site.
The Committee has also introduced entry fees of Nu 1,000 in eight other Lhakhangs.
They are Jampa Lhakhang in Bumthang, Dumgtsheg Lhakhang and Dobji Dzong in Paro, Rinchending Goenpa and Palden Tashi Choling Shedra in Phuentshogling, Buddha Dordenma and Simtokha Dzong in Thimphu and Trongsa Dzong. The fees will be collected from September 23.
The tourists will be allowed to visit these sites throughout the year except during six auspicious days (Chotrul Duchen, Zhabdrung Kuchoe, Saga Dawa Duchen/Lord Buddha Parinirvana, Chokhor Duchen/First Sermon of Lord Buddha, Lha Bab Duchen/Descending Day of Lord Buddha and Birth Anniversary of Guru Rinpoche). This is for the safety of the tourists as during auspicious days local people gather and crowd the sacred sites.
