Ambassador of Japan to Bhutan, Takeshi Yagi bid farewell to Lyonchhen Tshering Tobgay, yesterday.
The Prime Minister conveyed his deep gratitude to the Ambassador for rendering steadfast support to Bhutan and working in his best interests during his tenure as the Ambassador to Bhutan.
Lyonchhen thanked the out-going Ambassador for his instrumental role in enabling the assistance that Bhutan continues to receive from Japan. Lyonchhen expressed that Bhutan would always commit to furthering its relations with Japan through continued cooperation and meaningful exchanges in the future.
Ambassador Yagi added that he was confident that his successor’s endeavors would further deepen Bhutan-Japan relations.
The Japanese Ambassador also conveyed his heartiest felicitations on His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo Jigme Singye Wangchuck’s 60th Birth Anniversary.
Bhutan and Japan would commemorate the 30th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 2016.
Ambassador Yagi was accompanied by Mrs. Yagi, Spouse of the Ambassador and Ms. Omukai Asako, Second Secretary at the Embassy of Japan in New Delhi.
Later in the afternoon, the former president of Finland, Mrs. Tarja Halonen, and her delegation also called on the Prime Minister.
Lyonchhen thanked the former president on noteworthy Finnish involvement and contribution to Bhutan through the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). In addition, the leaders discussed benefits of instilling environmental conservation values in children and the importance of SDGs.
Halonen acted as the President of the Republic of Finland for two consecutive terms and Finland’s first female head of state from 2000 to 2012.
