His Majesty graces the Winter Youth Engagement Programme in Monggar

His Majesty The King and Her Majesty The Gyaltsuen with participants of the Winter Youth Engagement Programme.

His Majesty the King graced the closing ceremony of the Winter Youth Engagement Programme in Monggar on Friday.

His Majesty met over 400 girls who attended the 36-day long camp in Gyelpoizhing Higher Secondary School.

His Majesty the King was accompanied by Her Majesty the Gyaltsuen, His Royal Highness Prince Jigme Dorji Wangchuck, and Ashi Yeatso Lhamo.

The Winter Youth Engagement Programme for girls was held in Gyalpoizhing upon the command of His Majesty the King, and coordinated by the Office of the Gyalpoi Zimpon and the Department of Youth and Sports.

His Majesty the King commanded that the camp be organized for girls in eastern dzongkhags who come from difficult backgrounds.

A survey conducted during the camp found that most of the participants’ parents are divorced or single, and are farmers or daily wage workers.

During the camp, the girls were taught English and computer skills, and received counseling and life skills education among many others.

One hundred and thirty one girls received medical treatments that included ENT, ulcers, dental and eye problems. On the command of His Majesty the King, spectacles were purchased for 31 girls who were prescribed with glasses.

His Majesty the King also granted Nu 6,000 each as soelra to all the participants. This Winter Youth Engagement Programme will be an annual event.His Majesty The King with the people celebrating Chunyipai Losar

His Majesty the King and Her Majesty the Gyaltsuen also celebrated Chunyipai Losar with the people of Gyalpoizhing in Monggar on Friday.

His Majesty the King granted a Tokha to the people, and played archery to celebrate the day.

His Majesty also announced that His Royal Highness Prince Jigme Dorji Wangchuck would be appointed as His Majesty’s representative to take care of people’s Kidu in the east.

More than a thousand people from the neighboring areas and all the six eastern dzongkhags, came to celebrate the occasion with Their Majesties.
