His Majesty graces the opening of parliament session

HM+First session of the Second Parliament.His Majesty the King and the Gyaltsuen graced the opening ceremony of the first session of the second Parliament, which began yesterday.

His Majesty the King and the Gyaltsuen were received in a traditional Chipdrel procession.

His Majesty the King was received by the Speaker of the National Assembly, the Prime Minister, the Opposition Leader, the National Council Chairperson, cabinet ministers and the members of the parliament.

In the opening remarks, the Speaker, Jigme Zangpo, expressed gratitude to His Majesty the King for the support to the family members of the victims who died recently died in an explosion in Haa.

The Prime Minister opened his statement by thanking his Majesty the King for his guidance, benevolence, and steadfast support in the democratic process. Lyonchhen also thanked the monk body, armed forces and every citizen for supporting the elections.

The Prime Minister also thanked His Majesty the King for offering sympathy to the families and the loved ones of the victims of the army personnel who died in an explosion at the ammunition disposal site in Haa.

HM+First session of the Second Parliament-NCLyonchhen also said the exemplary relationship that exist between Bhutan and India is due to wise and able leadership of the successive Kings.

The opening session was also graced by their Royal Highnesses, the Prince and the Princesses, Senior Government Officials and the International dignitaries.

The discussion on the agenda formally begins from today.

Later in the afternoon, His Majesty the King, graced the opening ceremony of the National Council.

His Majesty the King was received by the Chairperson and the members of the National Council.

In the opening remarks His Majesty the King spoke about the importance of building a better and stronger nation for future generations. His Majesty said more can be done as Bhutanese have become more capable over the years.

His Majesty the King also reminded the councilors of their responsibilities.

The Chairperson of the National Council, Dasho Dr. Sonam Kinga reported that during the session there will be discussion on issues that need immediate attention. The issues include the economic situation of the country, human-wildlife conflict, mining issues among others. He also said the first important discussion in the upcoming session will be on the 11th Five Year Plan.
