Bahrain registered a commanding eight-wicket victory over Bhutan in the opening match of the Bhutan–Bahrain Men’s T20I Bilateral Series 2025, which began today in Gelephu.

Opting to field first after winning the toss, Bahrain restricted Bhutan to 115 all out in the allotted 20 overs. The hosts struggled to build partnerships against disciplined Bahraini bowling.

In reply, the visitors chased down the target in just 13.3 overs, finishing at 116 for 2 and taking a 1–0 lead in the five-match series.

According to the organisers, the tournament is part of Bhutan Cricket’s broader initiative to host more international competitions and elevate the country’s presence on the global cricketing stage. Officials say such events contribute to attracting visitors, investors, and international attention.

Damber Singh Gurung, CEO, Bhutan Cricket

“Bahrain has agreed to come and play this five-match T20I series with us. After this, we will host a series with Myanmar, and in January we will have a women’s quad series with teams from Hong Kong, Malaysia, Myanmar, and Bhutan. Our aim is to make Bhutan a host country for international cricket. This will give our players, coaches, and staff more chances to play and be part of international matches,” said Damber Singh Gurung, CEO, Bhutan Cricket.

The two teams meet again tomorrow for the second match of the five-game series, which concludes on the 14th of this month. The team securing the most wins will be crowned series champion.
