The Gyalsung Headquarters, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Skills Development, officially launched the Gyalsung Skilling Programme at the Jigme Wangchuck Power Training Institute in Sarpang today. The programme is a vital step towards realising His Majesty The King’s vision of building capabilities and empowering the Bhutanese youth.

A total of 488 Gyalsups: 313 male and 175 female, from the 2024 batch, have registered to participate in the inaugural Gyalsung Skilling Programme launched at the Jigme Wangchuck Power Training Institute in Sarpang.

The Institute will offer training in 15 skill areas, including building wiring, plumbing, construction carpentry, welding, solar technology, robotics, digital printing, masonry, and traditional arts, among others.

“I am excited for the skilling course. With my parents’ guidance, I chose building wiring, which is related to electrical. I believe this will help me in the future,” said Jigme Dechen Wangmo, a Gyalsup.

“I am truly excited about the training and eager to participate in any opportunities offered. The skills and knowledge I gain will not only benefit me when I return to my village, but also enable me to contribute to the country whenever needed,” said Kinga Tshering, also a Gyalsup.

The Bhutan Qualifications and Professionals Certification Authority will assess and certify participants. Those who successfully complete will receive the NC II certificate. Additionally, Gyalsups showing interest and potential can also pursue advanced diploma-level training at the institute.

The Gyalsung Headquarters is also partnering with the De-suung Skilling Programme to provide more training opportunities for Gyalsups.

Besides preparing the Gyalsups for National Service Duty, such skilling programs will also enable the Gyalsups to benefit from emerging economic prospects including the opportunities that will emerge in the development of the Gelephu Mindfulness City.
