Transport United FC eyes for miracle win over Colombo FC

Transport United FC eyes for a miracle win over Sri Lanka’s Colombo FC today. The Bhutanese side was thrashed 7-1 in the first leg of the AFC Cup 2019 preliminary stage in Sri Lanka last week.

Transport United FC now needs a special turnaround as they face Colombo FC in the second leg of the competition.

At the pre-match press conference yesterday, Transport United’s coach Ngawang Dhendup said they couldn’t perform well in Sri Lanka.

“There are certain reasons behind it. Our boys could not keep their concentration and we could not focus on the game as well. So we lost 7-1 to them.”

Regardless of the first leg defeat, he insisted the club still have hope against the Sri Lankan giants.       

“Colombo FC has taken good advantage of their climate. So here, at our home, we have an advantage including the crowd, weather and everything. We are going to take good advantage of it and give our hundred per cent. We will come up with a good result,” he added.

Meanwhile, the star striker of Transport United FC Olayemi Victor has returned to the squad. He had missed the first leg clash due to visa issues.

“We are going to show them that we are the champions of Bhutan,” Olayemi Victor said.

On the hand, the visiting side looked confident to progress in the next rounds of the qualifiers.

“We took our home advantage very well and we are currently leading. So we are not thinking about the lead. We are starting a new game here and we are not worried as the boys are mentally prepared,” Ruwan Mudiyanselage, the coach, of Colombo FC, said.

 For now, going by the result of the first match, Transport United FC have to score more than six goals and concede none to stay in the competition.

The winner of the two legged-affair will play ISL champions Chennaiyin FC in the play-off stage for a spot in the group stages.

The match will begin by 6 pm at the Changlimithang National Stadium today.
