Transport United was beaten 3-0 by Bengaluru FC in the second leg of the AFC Cup preliminary qualifiers, yesterday. A goal in the first half, and two more in the second half ended Transport United’s run in this year’s AFC Cup.

Need just a scoring draw to advance to the playoffs, the Bhutanese side stood strong until Boithang Haokip opened the scoring for Bengaluru FC in the 27th minute.

In a game dominated by the Indian Super League leaders, Bengaluru doubled their lead through Daniel Lalhlimpuia 10 minutes into the second half.

Bengaluru need a clear win to qualify. They cemented their position in the two-legged mid-February playoffs when Thongkhosiem Haokip netted Bengaluru’s third in the 62th minute which  sealed the match for the Blues.

Three-nil is how it finished on aggregate. A long trip back from for Transport United from South India. On the other hand, Bengaluru FC look forward to meeting either Bangladesh’s Saif Sporting Club or the Maldives’ TC Sports Club in the playoffs.
