Thimphu District Court sentenced a man from Punakha to nine years in prison for voluntary manslaughter. The court also asked him to pay the victim’s family a compensation of Nu 450,000 and expenses incurred during funeral rites.
The incident took place on the night of January 12, this year. A brawl had broken out between the convict and the victim at Central Plaza in Thimphu. During the fight, the convict had struck the victim on the head with a brick and had thrown the body off the building’s fifth floor.
In order to cover up the crime, the convict had collected the blood stained clothes in a bag and thrown them in the river near Pelkhil School.
The convict was arrested in February.
