Their Majesties visited the Merak Samtenpheling Lhakhang and offer prayers. Their Majesties then spent the entire day with the people, who had gathered at Merak Primary School ground.

His Majesty spoke to the people about the value of tradition in upholding the sovereignty of the country and reminded them to uphold their unique cultural heritage. His Majesty said that he is aware of problems faced by people, especially problems associated with Khimsa and Tsamdro, and that His Majesty will resolve the issues in time.

His Majesty also reminded the people to ensure their children receive education. Later, His Majesty granted Tokha to hundreds of people and interacted with them.

Through a lucky draw, His Majesty granted various soelras to the people. Essential items like television, power chainsaw, milk churner, mobile phones, greenhouse, tents, water boilers, rice and curry cookers were granted as soelras.

Merak residents said they are happy and blessed to receive Their Majesties in their village and receive an audience. People said Their Majesties visit to their village is a dream come true.

Meanwhile, the Kidu mobile medical unit, which accompanies His Majesty to some of the most inaccessible parts of the country to treat patients, set up a medical camp for the people of Merak.

There are over 250 households with over 2,300 people in Merak gewog. Thousands of people had lined up along the highway from Dewathang to Merak to greet their King and Queen.

Their Majesties are accompanied by His Royal Highness Gyaltshab Jigme Dorji Wangchuck. Their Majesties will visit Sakteng later this week.
