The much-anticipated Tragopan Festival opened in Khaling, Trashigang. His Royal Highness Gyaltshab Jigme Dorji Wangchuck graced the first day of the festival today.

More than 3,000 people, including students, are taking part in the festival. During the festival, various cultural programmes and exhibitions of local products are being showcased.

The Kharungla area is the only place where all three species of tragopan are found together. It is also home to Bhutan’s national butterfly and several endangered animal species.

The festival aims to promote nature, community, and biodiversity-based tourism, in line with the government’s efforts to boost tourism in eastern Bhutan.

His Royal Highness Gyaltshab also offered Tokha to the gathering.

Towards the end of the day-long festival, local artists performed for the audience.

Wamrong Dungkhag organised the festival with support from the Department of Tourism.

The Tragopan festival will conclude this coming Sunday. A three-day, first-ever Tragopan Festival has begun today in Kholdung village under Khaling Gewog in Trashigang district.
