Taxpayers facing problem filing in tax onlineTaxpayers in the capital are facing problems filing in their Income Tax online, using the recently installed Revenue Administration Management Information System (RAMIS).

RAMIS, launched by the finance ministry last month, was to cut down paper work and make tax collection efficient.

The problem started about a week ago when the system refused to work. Many had to go to the revenue and customs office personally to file in their tax.

A civil servant, Tshering Norbu said filing in tax using the new system was a sheer waste of time.

The revenue and customs staff had to collect piles of tax return forms.

The Deputy Collector from the Department of Revenue and Customs, Tshering Wangmo said they are yet to find what is causing the problem. She says it could probably be because of internet traffic congestion. It could be because of system failure and poor internet connectivity, according to the Department of Revenue and Customs.

The department maintains since the system is also new and one of the biggest software in the country with vast coverage, they are in the stabilisation stage trying to find solution to the problem.

Another official from the Department said if the problem is with internet connection, it will be discussed with the Bhutan Telecom.
