Bhutan observes Anti-Corruption week- The Chairperson of Anti-Corruption Commission, Dasho Neten Zangmo said there is a general feeling that corruption is a way of life and nothing can be done. “That is dangerous and the attitude of it’s none of my business will make us repent.”

Dasho was speaking in Thimphu as the country marked the International Anti-Corruption Day, today.

Bhutan ranks 30 of the total 175 countries in the Corruption Perceptions Index, 2014. The report was released on December 3. The country’s score also increased from 63 in 2013 to 65 this year.

The ACC officials say score is more important than ranking. They said Bhutan cannot compete with economically better-off countries. But, they said, Bhutan can manage to increase the score by managing corruption practices.

Bhutan, however, ranks first in the South East Asia.

The cleanest countries in the world are Denmark, New Zealand and Finland. The lowest three rankings are Sudan, North Korea and Somalia.

Meanwhile, to mark the day, a photography competition was also organised by Youth Media Centre. Cash prizes of Nu.50,000 and Nu.25,000 were given away.

The Anti-Corruption week will be observed from December 10-16.
