MPs question lifting of housing loansIt’s been more than five years now since the people in Wamrong town in Trashigang lost their homes in a fire disaster. But even now, the people have not been able to rebuild their homes due to suspension of housing loans. Wamrong MP, Karma Tenzin, asked the Finance Minister if the government could provide housing loans to them to enable them to reconstruct their homes.

The Finance Minister, Namgay Dorji, said the government has talked with the Royal Monetary Authority (RMA) on providing housing loans not only to the affected people in Wamrong but to all across the country.

The minister added the government has plans to provide home loans to civil servants to help them build houses and that the government is, at the moment, having dialogues with RMA on the matter.

Meanwhile, Trashi Yangtse’s Khamdang-Ramjar MP, Sonam Dondup Dorjee, if the import of Coaster and Hiace buses could be lifted.

In response, the Finance Minister said the import of the Coaster and Hiace buses were banned since the parliament is going to review the vehicle taxes. The minister also said the ban will be lifted after the vehicle taxes have been reviewed.
