A fine of Nu.50,000 will be levied if a person attempts to capture Tokay Gecko. An additional Nu.50,000 will be imposed if that person captures a Tokay Gecko.

The penalties became clear after the recent case in Gelegphu. The Gelegphu Tshachu’s caretaker was found in possession of gecko. The case is sub judice with the Gelegphu District Court.

The caretaker has paid a penalty of Nu.1,00,000. But the case was reopened after the forestry officials accused him of possessing more than one gecko. Evidence in the form of audio recordings and a witness has been produced in the court.

The next hearing was due for February 7 and the main witness was to be produced however it had to be postponed due to Gelegphu Tshechu.
