If you ever wondered whether you could apply online game strategies to solve real-world challenges, your search ends with ILS Gamification – Team Synergy. A Mine-craft-based platform is a training program in the form of a game, designed for office workers and decision-makers. It’s the first of its kind in the country.

According to the Institute for Learning Solutions (ILS), the designer of the game, the activities in the game utilises the expansive world of Minecraft to stimulate challenging situations in a highly interactive virtual environment.

The game is designed to play in teams of four participants and can accommodate 15 to 20 people.

The team members are required to work together, engage in discussion, and share constructive feedback to complete challenges assigned in the program.

Some of the activities in the game include mining for ore, fighting hostile mobs, and crafting new blocks and tools by gathering available resources in the game.

The challenges test the players’ communication, leadership, and problem skills in real-time. If a particular challenge is not accomplished, penalties may be imposed on the entire team members.

According to the Manager of the Institute for Learning Solutions (ILS) Kesang Om, the first project is targeted at team synergy.

“A workspace might have good communication among the employees but if the team lacks self-leadership, all those gaps can be identified while playing the game,” she said.

According to the institute, the game improves learning and engagement and develops a sense of accomplishment among the participants. The performance of the participants is graded in terms of communication and self-leadership while playing the game.

ILS designed the game after drawing inspiration from His Majesty The King’s vision to use technology to solve real-world problems. Contextualized in a Bhutanese setting, the game was launched on 9th July 2021.

For the convenience of the targeted audiences, the game has been customised into a one-day program.

Currently, the game could be played only in teams. However, the institute plans to upgrade the game for single players as well.
