DNT--Press-Conference--Horse-TradingDruk Nyamrup Tshogpa (DNT) says Druk Phuensum Tshogpa (DPT) is lying to the nation at a press conference earlier today.

DNT said both DPT and PDP have approached DNT for its candidates. DNT said it is shocked that DPT denied having approached DNT and its candidates.

DNT added that a three member team of DPT has formally approached DNT, requesting three of its candidates.

DNT also said two former ministers of DPT had called DNT’s Phuentsholing candidate until yesterday afternoon urging him to join DPT.

DNT also said it is “disheartened and alarmed” with DPT for questioning the integrity and morale of DNT and also accusing them of possible violation of the constitution.

DNT said for them it is the “country first” and that it will never violate the constitution nor lie to the people of Bhutan.

DNT says it has informed both DPT and PDP that as a political party it cannot make decision for its candidates and their participation in the general election as formal coalition is not permissible under the law of the country.

However, it says the candidates can forfeit their membership and join the party of their choice if that serves to strengthen the foundation of democracy. DNT said it has advised its candidates to refer ECB Act and proceed forward.
