By 2018, sports enthusiasts will have better facilities to play various games and sports. The construction of a multi-sports hall at Jungsina in Thimphu will begin tomorrow. The ground breaking ceremony was held today.
His Royal Highness Prince Jigyel Ugyen Wangchuck graced the ground breaking ceremony.
Once complete, people will be able to play basketball, volleyball, badminton and table tennis indoor along with gym facility.
There will also be a football ground, lawn tennis court, futsal, and outdoor basketball and volley ball courts, outside the hall.
The facility will be developed in an area over six acres of land at a cost of US$ 600,000.
Elisa Lee, a former world table tennis player and now the Member of Parliament in South Korea came up the idea to fund the project through the Korean Sports Promotion Organisation.
“The development of infrastructure in Bhutan is one of the main priorities. We cannot thank enough the government and people of Republic of Korea through Elisa Lee and Korean Sports Promotion Organization for the wonderful gift to the people of Bhutan,” said Bhutan Olympic Committee’s Secretary General, Sonam Karma Tshering.
It is expected to be complete in one and a half year time.
