The Hindu community in Pemathang Gewog in Samdrup Jongkhar now has a dedicated temple to offer prayers. A new Hindu temple, one of the biggest in Samdrup Choling Dungkhag, was inaugurated on Saturday.

With the completion of the temple, residents no longer need to conduct rituals at home or in temporary spaces.

Devotees can now gather in one place to observe traditions and perform ceremonies in a more organised and comfortable environment.

Damber Kumar Pokhrel, a resident said, “Now, we have a temple, and we are very happy. With the support of the Rinpoches and the gewog, this temple has become a reality.”

Pampha Pokhrel, another resident said, “To preserve and promote our religion, we did not have a proper place before. Now, with support from the public, we have been able to construct this temple, and we are grateful.”

Similarly, Meena Gurung said, “We are very happy. Earlier, we did not have a proper place to worship. This temple was built with contributions from everyone, including the gewog administration and the public.”

The temple is expected to serve not only Pemathang Gewog, but also nearby communities from Phuentshothang and Tashithang Gewogs.

The temple was constructed at a cost of Nu 6.1 M. The Hindu community in the gewog contributed fund, along with support from Dzongsar Jamyang Khyentse Rinpoche, Dungsey Garab Rinpoche, and the Pemathang Gewog administration.

With the temple now complete, it fulfils a long-standing need and offers a lasting space for worship and unity within the community.
