The pass percentage for classes XII and VIII students dropped last year. The class XII pass rate has decreased by over 1.3 per cent, while the class VIII pass rate dropped by more than 4.5 per cent as compared to 2023. The Bhutan Council for School Examinations and Assessment announced the results today.
The class XII pass percentage stood at 85.70 per cent last year, down from 87.09 per cent in 2023.
8990 candidates from 79 Higher Secondary Schools sat the Bhutan Higher Secondary Education Certificate exams. Of that, over 7700 students passed the examination.
In the science stream, Rigzin Namgay from Ugyen Academy in Punakha stood first with 90.75 per cent.
“When I first heard about my result, I was delighted. It was not just my success but a collective effort from my family and the Ugyen Academy team. I also want to thank Pema Gatshel Middle Secondary School, where I studied until class 10. It was all due to their support and a bit of luck,” he said.
In the arts stream, Pema Tshogyel from Karma Academy in Paro topped 89 per cent.
She said, “My deepest gratitude goes to Karma Academy for providing the resources and environment to excel. I also thank my previous schools—Monggar Higher Secondary School, Monggar Middle Secondary School, and Ridaza Primary School for building my foundation. Thanks to my family and friends for their constant encouragement.”
Thinley Dema from Motithang Higher Secondary School in Thimphu scored 88.50 per cent and topped the commerce stream.
Thinley Dema said, “I feel really happy and overwhelmed. I am thankful to all the teachers and people who have supported me. Not just the teachers at Motithang HSS, but also those from Jigme Namgyel Lower Secondary School. I also want to thank my friends for their continued support.”
In the Language and Culture Studies Certificate class 12 examination, Chimi Wangchuk from Taktse Central School in Trongsa topped the exam with 93.75 per cent.
All 59 students who sat for the exam passed.
The class VIII common examination results were also announced today. The pass rate is 71.32 per cent in 2024.
Deki Seldon from the Lhuntse Higher Secondary School came first with 95.80 per cent.
More than 12,700 students sat for the exam and 9,100 passed it.
