To make people aware and to become law-abiding residents of the upcoming Gelephu Mindfulness City (GMC), a sensitisation programme is underway in Gelephu on laws, crime and punishments, road safety, and traffic rules and regulations. Former Chief of Police, Kipchu Namgyel is conducting the programme, which is due to be completed on Saturday.

Members of the business community and building owners gathered at the Gelephu Higher Secondary School yesterday.

The Former Chief of Police informed the gathering that the Gelephu Mindfulness City will have separate laws ensuring zero crime, zero corruption, and a drug free society.

“When Gelephu becomes a new town, you must be aware that there will be new laws. Tougher laws from Singapore and other countries will be implemented here. For the rest of the districts, the laws will be as it is.  However here, there will be new laws. Before the people begin talking about a country having two laws, His Majesty wants people to be aware of the new laws here. Upon His Majesty’s command, I am here to sensitize you all.”

He added that every parent should ensure their children do not commit crimes and get involved in drug-related activities.

“After the inception of the Gelephu Mindfulness City, they plan to eliminate substance abusers and ensure zero crime. So, the parents should sensitize their family and relatives. Gone are the days of gang fights. We cannot get involved in gang fights.”

He also reminded everyone to abide by traffic laws.

“Speeding and driving while intoxicated will face severe penalties. They will suspend your license and levy hefty fines. It will be three times tougher. Highways in Gelephu and Sarpang are no longer places to learn driving. There will be stringent rules and regulations.”

He urged shops and business centres to have CCTV cameras since all the businesses will be allowed to remain open 24/7.
