Paro Police have arrested a Drukair staff member in his 40s in connection with the seizure of more than 22 kilogrammes of cannabis from a Drukair flight at Paro Airport on Saturday. According to sources, officials found the cannabis in two unclaimed bags concealed inside a waste-bin bag on the flight. The man was travelling as a passenger and was arrested on Monday. The case is under investigation.
The Drukair flight arrived at the Paro Airport from Bangkok via Bagdogra at around 10:30 in the morning.
After passengers had disembarked, Compliance and Enforcement Unit officials conducted a routine inspection of the aircraft. During the inspection, they found two unclaimed carry bags concealed inside a waste-bin bag.
According to sources, no crew member or airline staff member present at the aircraft claimed ownership of the bags or knowledge of their contents.
Officials then sent the waste-bin bag for X-ray screening. The scan indicated the presence of suspected narcotic substances.
When officials opened the bags, they found ten packets of suspected cannabis wrapped in airtight silver plastic packaging.The seized substance weighed over 22 kilogrammes.
Police say CCTV footage helped identify the suspect, who was subsequently arrested on Monday.
However, police have not disclosed further details about the CCTV investigation or the circumstances linking the suspect to the seized substance.
The case is under investigation.
