A student of Monggar Higher Secondary School has been sentenced to five years in prison for raping a minor. His accomplice, also a student of the same school, received three years in prison. Both the boys are 19 years old.

The girl is 17 years six month and therefore a minor. One of boys who claimed to be her boyfriend said that it was consensual. But under the law, since she is a minor, it is considered statutory rape.

Earlier, the medical team confirmed that the girl had sexual intercourse but found no signs of struggle or physical abuse.

The verdict was passed on July 28.
