To improve public service delivery, the Community Service Centres in gewogs will now be managed by the Gewog Administrations. This was shared by the Prime Minister during the question hour session in the National Assembly today. Lyonchhen added that this was decided during a cabinet meeting last month.

Trashigang’s Radhi-Sagteng Member of Parliament questioned the Prime Minister on what was being done to improve public service delivery, and on the plans and policies to address the issue of management and administration uncertainty of the Community Service Centres.

“Will the government continue to use Community Service Centres to address the challenges faced by illiterate people? If so, what is the government’s plan to address the administrative and management issues which kept on changing over the past years?,” said Tashi Tenzin, Trashigang’s Radhi-Sagteng MP.

The Prime Minister said that the government will work towards improving public service delivery in consultation with the relevant stakeholders.

“Recently, while discussing in the 17th Cabinet meeting, we decided that the Community Service Centre will now be under Gewog administration. We will have a meeting with the district officials, including Gups, Dzongdas, and Thromde officials starting from the 14th of this month to discuss ways to improve services for the people. We will plan advocacy and training, from which we will develop policies and plans. In Thromdes, we will start the integrated service centre, providing a single access point for efficient and effective service delivery.”

BBS got in touch with the Prime Minister’s Office on the rationale for having Gewog offices manage the centres but did not get a response.

At the NA session, the Prime Minister added that they will also work towards improving the infrastructure and facilities in the Community Service Centres.

Moreover, the Prime Minister said that discussions are underway with the RCSC to address the job security of more than 190 employees working in Community Service Centres.

Community Service Centres were established in 2011.
