A government circular issued today says the pedestrian day will be observed from 8 am to 6 pm from March till October. From November till the end of February, the day will be observed from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. It will be observed on first Sunday of every month.

This circular replaces all circulars and notifications issued earlier by the government on pedestrian day.

The day will be free of vehicles except for public buses including city buses, and vehicles for emergency services like ambulances, fire fighting engines and police patrol vehicles.

Vehicles for essential services such as milk delivery van, BBS mobile satellite van and industrial consignments in border towns will be allowed on Pedestrian Day. Tourist vehicles and bicycles are also free to move during the day.

Vehicles travelling to and from core areas to other dzongkhags and vehicles with patients will be allowed to travel without any hindrance.

Also, the Babesa-Thimphu expressway till Changlimethang will be open to traffic.

People from Changbangdu can drive towards national referral hospital from the tata motors showroom junction. They are also allowed to travel towards Changangkha Lhakhang by taking the route leading to JICA office. From Changangkha Lhakhang parking, the road towards Motithang BOD via Shop Number Seven will be open to traffic.

The vehicles coming from Pamtsho, Jungsina, Hejo and Samtenling areas can drive only till Zilukha school gate. The traffic from Begana, Dechencholing and Taba will be closed at Dechen Zam. But they can move further by using Luntenzampa road.

And in other dzongkhags, concerned thromde offices and Dzongkhag Administrations will have to move the vegetable market day to Saturdays.
