The infrastructure and transport minister says works are on track to build a new bypass which would connect Lhuentse’s Jarey Gewog to Thrumshingla pass. He announced this while answering a question raised by the Maenbi-Tsaenkhar MP about the status of the project.

“Of late, several political parties called me saying that the construction of the bypass is being picked as a manifesto for the upcoming election. However, I told them that there was no point in including it in their manifesto as the work had already started. I told them to remove it from their manifesto and that we would be doing it as well,” said Lyonpo Dorji Tshering.

He said the Prime Minister agreed to build the road upon the request of the people during his visit to Lhuentse last year.

“We have informed the Lhuentse District Administration to start the construction of the 5-kilometre stretch between Yumchhe and Droompang villages immediately and also start the survey works for the remaining part of the road between Droompang and Thrumshingla.”

The 30 to 40-kilometre bypass which would connect Serpang in Thrumshingla to Yumchhe in Lhuentse is meant to replace the failed Shingkhar-Gorgan Highway construction plan.
